Chris Brogan speaking about PodCamp

Ever wonder how PodCamp got started? I had an opportunity to interview Chris Brogan recently when he was in town to speak at the Ohio Growth Summit. He, along with Christopher Penn started PodCamp. Chris is a delightful person to talk to. If you ever get the chance to meet him, go introduce yourself, you’ll be glad you did.

We are well over 250 people registered for PodCamp Ohio! This is awesome! A few things we need.

I am still accepting volunteers to assist for a few hours either the night before beginning at 5pm at the site to help set up and stuff swag bags. Feel free to show up early for Ignite Columbus to help out. We still need volunteers the day of PodCamp as well. If you have recording equipment, feel free to bring it and record or Ustream the sessions you are planning to attend for those who can’t be with us. We can also use volunteers to help set up and clean up for lunch and clean up after the event as well. People who come to PodCamp are pretty considerate and for the most part, clean up after themselves so it will just be a matter of putting things back where they belong. If you can help out with any of these tasks, feel free to email me (mary [at] podcampohio [dot] com) to let me know. I will also need to know your shirt size.

If you need directions, there is a previous post with the details for how to get to the site. These are the same directions for Ignite. If you are coming to Ignite, please register to attend on their site so they can plan for you. Iginite will be providing free food and drinks so registering will help them plan for you.

The official Twitter hashtag for PodCamp Ohio is #pco09 (PCO + zero nine). If you are twittering at PodCamp, please use this tag. If you don’t know what a twitter hashtag is, I will be explaining that and more in my Twitter for Beginners session. That’s all for now. See you at PodCamp!

Online Kickoff Party

Are you like me and can’t wait for Podcamp Ohio to begin? Why not start networking even before you get on site? What am I talking about? Like last year, the “unofficial” online kickoff party for Podcamp Ohio will be on The Doctor Anonymous Show – two days before Podcamp.

I invite you to join me for my live podcast which will be Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time on BlogTalkRadio. Not only is there a chat room and a live webcam to see me, you can also call into the show at 646-716-9514. Or, there’s even a VoIP feature to join the show so that you don’t have to use a 10 digit number.

Feel free to call in to promote the session you’re presenting, your links on twitter/facebook/etc, or just call in to say how excited you are to attend Podcamp. Is this your first Podcamp? I’d like to hear from you as well. Also check out my video post above. Hope to see you for the show Thursday night and also at Podcamp on Saturday!

Detailed Driving Directions to OSU for PodCamp Ohio and Ignite Columbus

Due to summer construction, we’ve created the following driving directions for getting to both PodCamp Ohio and Ignite Columbus.

Approaching from Ohio Route 315 (recommended)

Take the Lane Avenue exit and go East (right turn if coming from the South, left turn if coming from the North). Continue on Lane Avenue about 1.2 miles. Turn right onto High Street. Approximately 0.5 mile on High Street you should come to the Ohio Union parking garage on your right.

Approaching from Interstate 71

Take the 11th Avenue exit and go West (left turn if coming from the South, right turn if coming from the North). 11th Avenue will become a one way street about 0.6 mile, you will briefly turn right onto Grant Avenue then promptly turn left onto Chittenden Avenue. Continue on Chittenden Avenue approximtely 0.6 mile until you come to High Street. Turn right onto High Street. The Ohio Union Parking Garage will be about 0.3 mile on your left.

The Ohio State University Union Garage is the closest parking garage to Mendenhall Laboratory, where PodCamp Ohio and Ignite Columbus will be taking place. Parking is $3 per exit.

If you are looking for accommodations or other travel information, please visit the Travel Info page.

Be A PodCamp Hero

Want to be a PodCamp hero? Volunteer! We are getting down to the final days before PodCamp Ohio 2 and it’s time to get a commitment from people who wish to help make this year’s PodCamp as good as, if not better than, last years event.

We are in need of volunteers who are willing to help with the following duties:

1. Meet the night before at the site to help set up and assemble swag bags. ( Stay for the Ignite event too)

2. Help in the morning with check-in and registration. I need one person willing to be the lead contact for registration volunteers.

3. Help set up and take down lunch. Lunch will be catered so this is mostly just putting up and taking down tables. I will need one lead person for this as well.

4. A few volunteers to give us some time by checking in at the begining of a session with the session leader to ensure they have what they need. This is easy enough to do by just volunteering to be the contact in a session that you would be attending anyway.

We will need to know if you are willing to be a volunteer for PodCamp Ohio by this Friday, if you would care to receive a staff t-shirt.

You can contact me at mary@podcampohio.com if you want to volunteer. Please include your desired t-shirt size and which task(s) you are willing to help with. You can also DM me on twitter: @merrycricket. Thanks everyone!

I can’t wait to meet all of you at PodCamp!
