Ignite Columbus 3 Video

Are you like me and was not able to attend Ignite Columbus 3 on June 19, 2009? Well, mikemac29 recorded the sessions via ustream. Thanks for doing this, because I was able to catch some of these sessions. Check it out in the video above. See you at Podcamp on Saturday!

PodCamp Ohio Online Kick Off Party Tonight!

The online kick off party for PodCamp Ohio is tonight on the Dr. Anonymous show. Please feel free to join us in the chat or on the call. If you are a presenter for PodCamp, call in and give a plug for the session you’re a leading. Also call in or join the chat if you just want to connect before coming to PodCamp Ohio.

The Dr. Anonymous Show starts at 9:00 PM tonight on Blog Talk Radio. You can join tonight’s shoe here. By the way, it is Dr. Anonymous’ 3rd year blogging anniversary as well, so we have plenty to celebrate. Come by and congratulate him!

Don’t forget the Ignite Columbus event on Friday night as well. This is going to be a great weekend.

Chris Brogan speaking about PodCamp

Ever wonder how PodCamp got started? I had an opportunity to interview Chris Brogan recently when he was in town to speak at the Ohio Growth Summit. He, along with Christopher Penn started PodCamp. Chris is a delightful person to talk to. If you ever get the chance to meet him, go introduce yourself, you’ll be glad you did.

We are well over 250 people registered for PodCamp Ohio! This is awesome! A few things we need.

I am still accepting volunteers to assist for a few hours either the night before beginning at 5pm at the site to help set up and stuff swag bags. Feel free to show up early for Ignite Columbus to help out. We still need volunteers the day of PodCamp as well. If you have recording equipment, feel free to bring it and record or Ustream the sessions you are planning to attend for those who can’t be with us. We can also use volunteers to help set up and clean up for lunch and clean up after the event as well. People who come to PodCamp are pretty considerate and for the most part, clean up after themselves so it will just be a matter of putting things back where they belong. If you can help out with any of these tasks, feel free to email me (mary [at] podcampohio [dot] com) to let me know. I will also need to know your shirt size.

If you need directions, there is a previous post with the details for how to get to the site. These are the same directions for Ignite. If you are coming to Ignite, please register to attend on their site so they can plan for you. Iginite will be providing free food and drinks so registering will help them plan for you.

The official Twitter hashtag for PodCamp Ohio is #pco09 (PCO + zero nine). If you are twittering at PodCamp, please use this tag. If you don’t know what a twitter hashtag is, I will be explaining that and more in my Twitter for Beginners session. That’s all for now. See you at PodCamp!

Ignite Columbus Ignites PodCamp Ohio

It’s official! The night before PodCamp Ohio we will be hosting Ignite Columbus. We’re thinking of calling it Ignite Columbus presents: Ignite Ohio or some other such fun thing. The PodCamp Ohio organizing crew has been working to try to bring extra value and fun to your PodCamp experience. This special Ignite will be from 6 to 8pm on Friday June 19th, in the same space as PodCamp Ohio.

Register for Ignite Columbus 3

We contacted the Ignite Columbus organizers and invited them to use our space for their next event and they have accepted. This event is free and open to anyone who wishes to attend. All PodCamp Ohio attendees are welcome to join in the fun of Ignite.

Don’t know what Ignite is? Ignite is an evening of 5 minute presentations that cover a range of topics people are passionate about. Presenters use a deck of 20 slides that advance every 15 seconds. Many who attended Ignite events come away with new information, new friends and maybe even the spark of a new idea.

Here is my favorite presentation from the most recent Ignite Columbus Event:

We are thrilled to be working with Dan Rockwell, Alvin Borromeo and the rest of the Ignite Columbus crew to bring you this fun evening of entertainment. Between Ignite and PodCamp Ohio, the weekend is sure to leave you with a lot of information and fresh ideas for enhancing your own new media and social media experience.

If you would like to present at the Ignite event, please watch their website for details on how to sign up. All presentations will need to use the Ignite template so it is important that you register to present and receive instructions. We will be posting more details here as they develop.

I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at this event and the next day at PodCamp Ohio.

Ignite Columbus 2 A Big Hit

I attended the second Ignite Columbus Event this week and it was even better than the first.

The previous event was held at the Columbus Robotics Society which is essentially a garage and had a wonderful covert underground feel. I enjoyed the feel of people coming together to talk about something they were passionate about and to take up the challenge to present on their topic in 5 minutes with slide advancing every 15 seconds. It’s not as easy as it looks.

The second event was held at Lextant in the now renovated Smith Brothers Hardware Building. There were more people attending and even more presenters than the first. The event was such a hit, that the organizers and attendees were talking about Ignite 3 while they were still at this one.

This particular event had a twist to it. We were given a ticket at sign in for a raffle prize. As luck would have it, my number was drawn and there was a string attached. I had to improv a deck of slides that I had never seen before. So I did it and I have to say it was a blast!

We were fortunate enough to have a professional videographer at this event to record all of the presentations. I will post a link here on this site when I get word that the videos are posted so you can see all of them and get a better sense of what Ignite is all about.

In the mean time, start getting ready for the next Ignite Columbus. The tentative date will be in April. I hope we get to see some more improv as well. After all, why should I be the only one to make a fool of them selves in public?

Many thanks to the organizers and especially Alvin Borromeo (@wyliemac) and Dan Rockwell (@floozyspeak) for their hard work and vision. Make sure you follow them on Twitter to keep up with everything they are doing.
